You’ve probably noticed this term I keep throwing around called “Emotional Engagement” – which means, you might be asking yourself what the heck I mean by it.
Believe it or not, Emotional Engagement is the very backbone of every great business, great sale, and great blog. When used correctly, it holds the power to convince even the most skeptical of minds, and make loyal even the most fleeting of readers.
And yet, so few people know it exists – much less how to use it.
What is Emotional Engagement? A marketer’s cocktail of sales genius, love for the job, belief in the customer, and cold hard science, baby.
And your clients could really do with a drink right about now.
People Are Desperate For Something New – And “New” Sells. Big Time.
If we’re honest with ourselves, we’re all sick and tired of the same old “professional voice”; each business in a formal, suit-and-tie shouting match over why their product is bigger and better than all the rest – reducing their client to nothing more than a means to an end.
It’s exhausting, cliché, and the simple fact is that those same old sales tactics simply don’t work anymore.
More and more people are seeing through the price-tag scams of those who’s products are nothing more than a commodity, while more and more businesses are simply copying the market strategies of others, or are forced to cut their prices in half in order to compete.
And the end result? Tragic, as more and more businesses are unable to stay afloat amidst massive competition, and pitiful sales.
The Simple Truth Is, There’s No Such Thing as a Logical Buyer.
It’s true. The logical buyer is merely a myth amidst a market of commodities.
We live in an age where people are more likely to buy from the shop with the attractive clerk, from the ad featuring the same breed of dog, from the product description that made us laugh, or from the store that your best friend’s dad works for, versus from the obviously better and cheaper option.
Why? It’s in our DNA.
Deep within our brains, there lives the control center for our emotions, called the amygdala. This tiny little lobe, constantly processing our surroundings and interpreting them into our subconscious, is awakened whenever we come across something that we can relate with; so whenever we see an ad that speaks to us, or read an article that made us feel, we instantly feel a connection – subconsciously drawn to them, their cause, and their product.
It is only when two products are the same, that logic kicks in and we settle for the cheaper and better option.
So, how does one differentiate their product from all the rest? By triggering the amygdala – by making a connection.
Enter, Emotional Engagement – Where Marketing Brings Relationship, and Relationship Brings Success.
Whether you’re a designer, a creator, a business owner, an entrepreneur, a writer, or a blogger, Emotional Engagement is a bold and beautiful approach to finding fulfillment and success in your work.
As human beings, we all crave to make meaningful connections within our day-to-day lives – our choices heavily influenced by our excitable amygdala. Taking the time as a business owner to engage your audience in just such a meaningful way, can not only do wonders for your traffic and sales, but will also empower your readers and potential clients to make a difference in their own lives, and in the lives of others.
As a real, tried-and-true marketing strategy, Emotional Engagement is about a service-minded approach to business. It’s about making a connection, and forming relationships that last long beyond a completed project or sale. It’s about addressing your client directly, and speaking to them like a human being.
Emotional Engagement is about turning strangers into friends, friends into clients, and clients into family – it starts, and ends, with relationship.
It’s an Artform That Literally Pays to Apply – And I’m Here to Help.
All things considered, it’s no wonder this marketing strategy is turning modern-day sales practices on it’s head. It’s clean, it’s fresh, it’s simple, and it’s honest – locking a client in for the long-haul, rather than a done-and-gone deal.
But here’s the thing: Emotional Engagement is a hard skill to master. It takes practice, careful consideration and wording, a passion for work, belief in the product, love for the client, and a whole lot of empathy.
The long and short of it is, Emotional Engagement only works if you truly care about your clients, and possess the skill to represent that without coming across as pushy or fake.
